Press Notice

The M1 Podcast is a local and regional podcast for you.  The podcast carries features and stories of interest to those living or travelling up and down and in and around the M1.

There are many podcasts out there on different themes, but there is a big gap in terms of local content.  This podcast will carry stories that are interesting to people in the regional along the M1.

Garrett Mullan, creator of the podcast said: ‘This idea had been in my head for a good long time and having done quite a bit of work, it has now come to fruition.  I am grateful for the volunteer support of sound engineer David West in Balbriggan and Brian Greene in Baldoyle for helping me to get the podcast online’.

He added: ‘I recently took a course on podcasting at the Irish Institute of Music and Song in Balbriggan, led by its Head of Development Brian Connolly. Having taken this course, I realised this is something I can do’.

There are three episodes online now.  They are The Life and Legacy of Seamus Ennis, Interview with teacher author Kevin Curran on Teaching and Writing in Balbriggan and an interview with past pupils at Gormanston College boarding school.

Garrett says: ‘I thought these issues would be of interest locally for example people with a familiarity about the Seamus Ennis Centre but want to know more.  The topics on the schools will be of interest to the local community and people with previous connections here.

‘Recent features have included a focus with Swords local and Rush schoolteacher former League of Ireland legend on League of Ireland clubs in and around the M1. Irish Examiner Cost of Living Correspondent Caitriona Redmond joined me for a discussion on what can be done about the cost of living.

Upcoming podcasts include lively features on the local elections as they apply to Louth, Meath and Fingal and an episode feature on the night time economy in and around the M1.

The M1 Podcast is available at M1 Podcast (radio.ie) , Spotify and various podcast apps.  Podcasts are an increasingly popular form for consuming media.  Podcasts are similar to radio, but can be downloaded as files and downloaded for listeners convenience.  As of 2022, there are nearly 3 million podcasts worldwide. Now the north east has one of its own.
